Efforts have been made by the author, Dr. Tapan Kumar Banerjee himself to discover a common thread in the midst of divergence among the classical Marxist thinkers and to search for consistency despite shifts in their position. The author opines that even if a theoretical framework explaining the position of Marx and the classical Marxists can be built up, this framework is marked by certain limitations because strains in some of their writings are quite in evidence. The author concludes experiencing with these theoretical strains the classical Marxist thinkers had to evolve mechanisms of various kinds to meet the challenges they had to confront. But the operational success of the mechanisms is conditional upon the interaction of a plethora of internal and external factors.
